AVS textiles provide thermal protection to prevent heat from damaging equipment or to protect personnel from high temperature conditions.
Temperature Levels
Exposure temperature and length of time at that temperature should be taken into consideration when determining the type of textile required to provide optimum thermal protection.
Low to Moderate: 0 – 1000°F (-17.8° – 537°C)
Moderate to High: 1001 – 1300°F (538° – 704°C)
High to Very High: 1301 – 1800°F (705° – 982°C)
Extreme: >1800°F (> 982°C)
Thermal Protection Types
AVS Industries manufactures the following types of textiles in various weights, widths, thicknesses, and/or diameters to meet specific end use requirements:
Fabrics: Fiberglass, Silica and Wire Inserted Ceramic
Insulation: Silica
Sewing Threads: Fiberglass, Kevlar, Metallized and Quartz
Tapes: Aluminized Fiberglass and Silica (with or without PSA Backing)
Ropes: Twisted and Braided Silica Ropes
Sleeving: Silica and Fiberglass
AVS Industries develops and manufactures a diverse portfolio of high temperature fabrics to meet all types industrial end-use applications. Many of our fabrics are engineered with very specific properties to enhance product handling or thermal performance.
Fiberglass Fabrics (E-Glass)
Manufactured from premium grade E-Glass fiberglass fabric with a plain weave construction. Fabric is typically heat treated to remove residual sizing additives used during the weaving process.
AVS Coated Fiberglass Fabrics
Manufactured from premium grade E-Glass fiberglass fabric and a high-quality silicone or Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating for improved abrasion resistance and functional properties.
Aluminized Fiberglass Fabrics
Manufactured from E-glass fiberglass fabric, high temperature adhesive, and a thin layer of aluminum foil or aluminized Mylar.
Vermiculite Coated Fiberglass Fabrics
Manufactured using premium grade E-glass fiberglass fabric with a plain weave construction that has been heat treated prior to the application of the vermiculite coating. AVS vermiculite coated fabric is commonly used at operating temperatures up to 1000°F (538°C) or for intermittent heat and flame protection up to 1500°F (815°C).
Flxglas® HT Fabrics
Manufactured using premium grade E-glass fiberglass fabric that has been heat treated prior to the application of a proprietary High Temperature (HT) treatment. Flxglas HT fabrics can be used in continuous temperature applications up to 1200°F (649°C) while maintaining excellent pliability and moderate strength. Typically used in textile fabrication for removable covers and expansion joints.
AVSil® Silica Fabric
The premiere high-performance silica fabrics in the textile industry. High Silica content for ultimate thermal and welding protection. AVSil® Silica Fabrics are engineered to withstand continuous temperatures up to 1900°F (1038°C) while maintaining excellent pliability and moderate strength.
Specialty Silica Fabrics
The AVSil® standard silica fabrics can be laminated in an aluminized film or coated with silicone to obtain special performance properties. Typically used for textile fabrication.
Ultisil Silica Fabrics
Ultisil silica fabric is engineered with all of the outstanding qualities of AVSil® standard silica fabrics, with increased strength and flexibility at continuous temperatures ranges up to 2000°F (1093°C). Ultisil is impregnated with a proprietary high temperature surface treatment for improved thermal performance at elevated temperature.

AVS offers a diverse portfolio of needled insulation to meet all temperature requirements and can be used in conjunction with high performance fabrics to produce textile parts for all types of end use applications.
AVSil® Preshrunk Silica Needled Insulation
Manufactured from chopped silica (>96% SiO2 Content) fiber which is mechanical needled together into a dense insulation mat. Areal shrinkage is less than 4 percent. Excellent dimensional stability improves durability and structural integrity when used in the manufacture of thermal pads and removable covers.
AVS high temperature sewing threads are engineered for specific temperature ranges and end use applications. Stainless steel or Inconel wire are incorporated into the sewing threads to improve the strength at very high temperatures.
AVS offers a variety of high temperature woven silica tapes and specialty slit tapes to meet various end use applications. A Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) and release line is applied to our engineered AVSil® satin weave silica fabrics and lightweight aluminized fiberglass fabric.
Woven Silica Tapes
High performance woven silica (> 96% SiO2) tapes. Engineered to improved handling for high temperature end use applications.
Silica and Aluminized Fiberglass Slit Tapes
A Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) with release liner is laminated to AVSil® 84CH and 188CH satin weave silica fabrics and AVS FG ALUMF2025HTH aluminized fiberglass fabric. AVS slit tapes are typically used to protect electrical lines, hydraulic lines, and all types of tubing from radiant heat, welding sparks and splatter. The adhesive backing helps with installation on the item to be protected. Additional wire wrap may be required in continuous high temperature applications. The melt point of the adhesive system for the PSA backing is approximately 160°F (71°C) and is considered to be sacrificial. AVS can manufacture slit tapes from most of our high temperature fabrics. If you would prefer slit tapes with or without the PSA backing please give us a call to discuss your application.

Note 2: Aluminum foil melt point is 1200°F (649°C).
Note 3: PSA adhesive will degrade at temperatures over 160°F (71°C).
AVS manufactures twisted and braided high temperature silica ropes. Typically used in furnace gasket applications.

Silica Sleeving
AVS manufactures high silica (>96% SiO2) sleeving for high or extreme temperature applications where optimum protection is required.
Fiberglass Sleeving
AVS engineers this sleeving from a dense fiberglass sleeve and a thick coating of self-extinguishing high temperature silicone rubber that withstands 500°F (260°C) continuous exposure, and molten splash up to 2,000°F (1093°C).
