AVS manufactures high temperature textiles (fabrics, insulation and sewing threads) with or without specialty coatings to be used for the Cold Face (Outside), Middle (Insulation), and Hot Face (Inside) layers. These textiles are used with our Sewing Threads in high temperature applications.
Textile fabrication is the manufacturing of high temperature textile parts to provide thermal protection for personal or equipment safety. This consists of thermal protection covers, expansion joints, welding protection blankets, tube seals, and turbo covers to name a few. It is imperative to determine the maximum operating temperature for the end use application so that the appropriate precautions can be taken to design the best textile to meet all thermal and functional criteria. Textile fabricated parts are designed in unlimited sizes and thicknesses.
Most textile parts or thermal protective covers have a minimum of three layers Cold Face (Outside), Insulation (Middle), and Hot Face (Inside).
AVS Coated Fiberglass
Manufactured from premium grade E-Glass fiberglass fabric and a high-quality silicone or Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating for improved abrasion resistance.
Aluminized Fiberglass Fabrics
Manufactured from an E-glass plain weave fiberglass fabric that has been heat treated to remove any residual chemicals and sizing additives from the weaving process. A thin layer of aluminum foil or aluminized Mylar is laminated to one side of the fabric using a high temperature adhesive. The reflective layer will reduce the backside (cold side) temperature by approximately 150°F (65°C).
Moderate - High Temperature: 1001 - 1300°F (538 - 704°C) and
High - Very High Temperature: 1301 - 1800°F (705 - 982°C)
AVSil® Preshrunk Silica Needled Insulation
Manufactured from chopped silica (>96% SiO2 Content) fiber which is mechanically needled together into a dense insulation mat. Areal shrinkage is less than 4 percent.
Low - Moderate Temperatures: 0 - 1000°F (-17.8 - 537°C)
Fiberglass Fabrics (E-Glass)
Manufactured from premium grade E-Glass fiberglass fabric with a plain weave construction. Typically heat treated to remove residual sizing additives used during the weaving process.
Moderate - High Temperatures: 1001 - 1300°F (538 - 704°C)
Vermiculite Coated Fiberglass Fabrics
Manufactured using premium grade E-glass fiberglass fabric with a plain weave construction that has been heat treated prior to the application of the vermiculite coating. AVS vermiculite coated fabric is commonly used at operating temperatures up to 1000°F (538°C) or for intermittent heat and flame protection up to 1500°F (815°C).
Flxglas® HT Fabrics
Manufactured using premium grade E-glass fiberglass fabric that has been heat treated prior to the application of a proprietary High Temperature (HT) treatment. Flxglas® HT fabrics can be used in continuous temperature applications up to 1200°F (649°C) while maintaining excellent pliability and moderate strength.
High - Very High Temperatures: 1301 - 1800°F (705 - 982°C)
AVSil® Silica Fabrics
High Silica content (>95 % SiO2) fabric that is engineered to withstand continuous temperature up to 1900°F (1038˚C) while maintaining excellent pliability and moderate strength.
Specialty Silica Fabrics
AVSil® standard silica fabrics can be laminated in an aluminized film or coated with silicone to obtain special performance properties.
Extreme Temperatures: > 1800°F (> 982°C)
Ultisil Silica Fabrics
Ultisil silica fabrics incorporate all of the outstanding qualities of AVSil® standard silica fabrics, with increased strength and flexibility at continuous temperatures ranges up to 2000°F (1093°C).

Wire Inserted Ceramic Fabrics
AVS wire inserted ceramic fabrics are engineered with 310 stainless steel wire in both directions to withstand operating temperatures up to 2100°F (1149°C). Depending on your end use application you can choose from a 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) or 1/8 inch (3.18 mm) thick wire inserted ceramic fabric.
AVS high temperature sewing threads are engineered for specific temperature ranges and end use applications. Stainless steel or Inconel wires are incorporated into the sewing threads to improve strength at very high temperatures.
