AVS Fiberglass Fabrics have great use versatility along with improved handling properties. Our FLXGLAS® HT consistently outperforms standard and vermiculite coated fiberglass fabrics in continuous high temperature applications.
AVS Fiberglass Fabrics
AVS Fiberglass Fabrics have great versatility along with improved handling properties. Greige (GR) and heat treated (HT) AVS Fiberglass Fabrics are available in foil/film laminated and rubber polymer coated forms. Intermittent thermal capability for the base fiberglass fabric is 1000°F (538°C). If exposed to high temperatures of 600°F (315°C) to 1000°F (538°C) for an extended period of time the fabric may become stiff and brittle. A hydrocarbon (H) finish can be applied to Heat Treated (HT) fabrics to minimize dermatitis during handling.
Maximum allowable continuous temperature limits for the surface finish:
- H (Hydrocarbon) - 300°F (150°C)
- Aluminum Foil - 1200°F (650°C)
- Silicone - 500°F (260°C)
- Proprietary Silica Treatment - 300°F (150°C)
- PTFE – 600°F (315°C)
- Acrylic (Orange, CSR) - 300°F (150°C)
- Alum Mylar Film - 600°F (315°C)
AVS Fiberglass Fabrics are extensively used in the Construction, Chemical Processing, Petroleum Refineries, Automotive Industry, and Maritime industries. Potential applications include: hot work protection, protection from weather elements, gas and liquid impermeability coverings, covering for removable insulations, safety color protection systems, fabricated curtains/blankets, automotive engine heat containment, and vertical spark protection.
Fiberglass Fabrics (E-Glass)
AVS Plain Weave Fiberglass Fabrics are made from E-glass texturized yarn and are normally heat treated (HT) to remove residual sizing additives used during the weaving process. Select AVS Plain Weave Fiberglass Fabrics are available in a Greige (GR) condition which is commonly referred to as “Loomstate”. Heat treating improves handling properties and prepares the fabric to be utilized for other process applications like aluminum foil or mylar lamination.
Coated Fiberglass Fabrics
Manufactured from premium grade E-Glass fiberglass fabric and a high-quality silicone or Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating for improved abrasion resistance and functional properties.
Aluminized Fiberglass Fabrics
Manufactured from an E-glass plain weave fiberglass fabric that has been heat treated to remove any residual chemicals and sizing additives from the weaving process. A thin layer of aluminum foil or aluminized Mylar is laminated to one side of the fabric using a high temperature adhesive. The reflective layer will reduce the backside (cold side) temperature by approximately 150°F (65°C).
Vermiculite Coated Fiberglass Fabrics
Manufactured using premium grade E-glass fiberglass fabric with a plain weave construction that has been heat treated prior to the application of the vermiculite coating. AVS vermiculite coated fabric is commonly used at operating temperatures up to 1000°F (538°C) or for intermittent heat and flame protection up to 1500°F (815°C).
FLXGLAS® HT Treated Fiberglass Fabrics
FLXGLAS® HT consistently outperforms standard and vermiculite coated fiberglass fabrics in continuous high temperature applications. FLXGLAS® HT Treated Fiberglas Fabrics are impregnated with a proprietary high temperature treatment that helps the fabric remain pliable and strong when exposed to high temperature operating conditions. FLXGLAS® HT Treated Fiberglass Fabrics can handle temperatures up to 1200°F (649°C). FLXGLAS® HT Treated Fabrics are available in different weights and weave constructions (plain and satin).
Potential applications include: expansion joints, turbine covers, removable insulation wraps, welding curtains, heat barriers, high temperature insulation, tank gaskets and automotive mirror bending (satin weave special use).
